French actress and sex symbol Brigitte Bardot reportedly said “I started out as a lousy actress and have remained one,” but there’s no doubting her enormously influential fashion legacy.
Bardot worked with the great film director Jean-Luc Godard, who was a key part of the French New Wave movement in the 50’s and 60’s, and is still regarded as one of the greatest directors of all time. In fact, at the recent 2014 Cannes Film Festival, Godard’s film Goodbye To Language tied for the Jury Prize with Quebecois director Xavier Dolan (Mommy).

One of Godard’s great 60’s heyday film is Contempt (1963), staring Bardot, and I had a chance to see the film this winter as part of TIFF Cinematheque ‘s Godard Forever-Part 1 retrospective. A sizzling hot Bardot wears all kinds of great 60’s looks. Her style has influenced generations of women and is absolutely on trend this summer 2014.
The second part of TIFF Cinematheque’s comprehensive retrospective on Jean-Luc Godard will take place this Fall at TIFF Bell Lightbox.
